Introduction

After troubleshooting your device if you determine that you need to replace your battery this guide is for you. This guide will teach the user to remove and replace the battery on the HP Chromebook 11 G8 EE.

Before following this guide, be sure to power off the device and remove any external power sources.

The user should be wary of a hot, swollen looking, or off smelling battery which may result in a fire if handled incorrectly. Always properly recycle spent batteries.

    • Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove:

    • Four 7 mm screws.

    • Two 8 mm screws.

Is it possible that the screw location diagram is incorrect? On my g8 ee it seems that the longest screw (the orange 8 mm?) Goes closest to the screen hinge and the other 4 screws are identical size (the 7mm?).

In the diagram, the longest screw (orange) is shown as being located farthest from the screen hinge. But I've also seen a YouTube video possibly corroborate this guide's screw information, differing from the 2 G8 EE models I checked in person.

    • Flip the device over and open the lid.

    • Use a plastic opening tool to pry the keyboard assembly away from the bottom case, prying around the perimeter until it fully separates.

    • Lift the keyboard assembly from the laptop towards you, away from the screen.

    • Do not puncture or damage any parts of the battery.

    • Disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard by pulling the connector straight out of its motherboard port.

    • The speakers are removed in these images, but they don't need to be to replace the battery.

    • Remove the four 3.5 mm Phillips #1 screws securing the battery.

    • If you've already removed the speakers, you'll only need to remove the two screws on the top of the battery, near the motherboard.
