Overtime, tub drainers become old and need to be replaced. The purpose of this guide is to provide an easy, safe, and affordable way to replace your own bathtub drainer without calling someone out to come and fix it.

    • What do you need?

    • I went to my local Home Depot store and purchased the Danco EZ Drain Cover. The package included: the EZ Drain Cover and 2 gaskets

    • Step 1

    • Remove the old stopper from the drain (my tub was without one when I bought the house)

    • Step 2.

    • The gaskets come in two sizes, large and small. Determine which is the correct size. To do this, position the gasket into the groove of the stopper with the flange side in the upward position. Insert the stopper with the gasket in the drain. I tried the smaller one first and it was loose; then I tried the larger size & it fitted the drain perfectly

    • Step 3

    • Test the stopper. Close the drain and fill the tub with water. Press down on top of the stopper to hold the water in the tub. To open the drain and release the water, press down on top of the stopper again

    • Side Note

    • You may also use plumber's putty to seal the stopper. To use the plumber's putty, apply it around the under side of the stopper rim.  After it's applied, insert the stopper into the drain and press into place.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
