    • Start with your Dyson DC14 unplugged, standing upright and facing towards you.

    • Remove the canister from the vacuum.

    • Disconnect the telescopic vacuum wand.

    • Remove the two T15 Torx screws securing the switch cover to the vacuum.

    • Push outward on the two plastic clips that secure the switch cover to the vacuum.

There are also two screws ( one of which can been seen on the photo and another a few inches below ) that need to be removed BEFORE pushing outward on the plastic tabs.

    • Remove the switch cover from the vacuum.

    • The purple switch button may separate from the rest of the switch cover.

  4. lYvVu6FWHRLDfESw
    • Holding them by their white plastic coverings, firmly pull the two wires from the power switch.

    • Be sure to grip the wires from their attached connectors. Pulling directly on the wires could damage your vacuum.

    • The terminals will only fit one way during reassembly. Only one of the wires is long enough to reach the far terminal of the switch.

I can’t unplug the old starter. It seems stuck. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you to the awesome student who made this tutorial! It worked perfectly and saved me the MAJOR expense of a professional repair. Great job!

Tim Swift -

The comment I listed below is not mine. I copied it from a Mr. Tim Swift who wrote it on 06/28/2015. Had I not have seen his comment, I would have said the exact same thing.

I have only one other thing to say......AWESOME!!

Thanks from a 70 year old non-mechanical female with no torque wrench. I followed this tutorial a few months ago and found that my switch had simply come undone and I reinserted it but couldn't attach orange thing back cause switch kept slipping loose. I taped it up around switch so I wouldn't get electrocuted when turning on. Has worked fine til now, and I suppose my switch has finally failed, so I'm ordering new one. This Dyson was a refurbished one I got fairly cheap (for a Dyson) 12 years ago! SO, THANKS MUCH!!

Brilliant and saved me over £100 which is the cost of a Dyson engineer to attend plus switch. Name a charity.

This worked for me!!! Simply followed instructions and cleaned the switch by blowing air through it, re-installed it and hey presto!!!!
