Introduction

This guide is how to refill an empty Bic handheld lighter with Butane. While the steps are simple, this fix should be done carefully in an open, well ventilated space due to Butane's flammability.

    • Caution -- Butane is flammable and dangerous when inhaled. Because of this, it is important to do this fix in a well ventilated space and ensure a complete seal when refilling the Bic lighter.

    • Identify the small, circular dent in the bottom in the BIC lighter.

    • Push the push pin's metal tip into this dent until the bead that seals it pops loose. You will be able to hear and feel this.

    • Take your can of Butane and put the rubber ingot over the tip of the nozzle.

    • Make sure that the hole in your ingot lines up with the hole in the Butane nozzle. This is to make an airtight seal so that the Butane doesn't leak out.

  3. GJTxA3KMC4OPZohL
    • Press the Butane nozzle to the hole you made in the bottom of the lighter. Make sure the rubber ingot is snug.

    • Press down on the Butane nozzle and begin filling the lighter, which takes around 30 seconds.

    • QUICKLY -- remove the Butane nozzle from the bottom of the lighter and put your thumb over the hole in the lighter to seal it.

    • Do this quickly to make sure no Butane escapes. You will be able to hear noise if gas is escaping.

    • QUICKLY -- Insert the push pin back into the hole in the lighter. Make sure to push it in all the way to make a secure seal.

    • Before sparking your lighter, wash your hands and go to a different space to ensure no possible Butane in the air ignites.

    • Optional -- To finish, use the wire cutters to shorten the push pin and file it smooth with the metal file. Make sure to leave some of the plastic from the push pin to help the lighter remain sealed.
