Introduction

The spark plug is responsible for igniting the fuel in your engine. Over time, it will wear out and need to be replaced. This replacement is fairly simple and can be done anywhere in little time. You will need a 2" long 13/16" socket wrench to remove the spark plug.

    • Make sure the engine is turned off before beginning.

    • Use your hands to remove the spark plug wire. It should pop off easily with little effort

    • Use a socket wrench with a 13/16" hex bit to unscrew the spark plug from the engine. You will probably need to use a long hex bit in order to get to the bolt.

    • Pull the spark plug out of its housing with your hands.

    • Alternatively, you may use a wrench or pliers to remove the spark plug instead. (Shown in the second image.)

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

I have a Briggs and Stratton engine on my lawn mower but can't get at the spark plug as there is some kind of black plastic housing in front of it.

What size spark plug does this 675 series lawn mower take, I didn't see it listed?

Who wrote this nonsense?

One important step in the replacement that was neglected was checking the proper Spark Plug Gap. Should you just take it out of the pack, without checking and install it? I wouldn’t.

Also, the Spark Plug should be installed with a Torque Wrench, setting it to 180 lb-in (20nm) . . . Heating and cooling of the Head, with an over-tightened Spark Plug could cause warping and if not tight enough, then loss of compression would result.

The correct Spark Plug depends upon Briggs & Stratton Engine Model and Date of Manufacture.

My 675 series more floods real easily when it is cold or if after using it for a while I take a break. If the break is about 30 minutes it simply will flood and not stat again. Any suggestions?
