Introduction

The touch pad (also called the track pad or mouse pad) is a component of the palm rest assembly. If only your touch pad, and not the entire palm rest assembly (i.e. keyboard) need replaced, then use this guide.

    • Turn the device over so the bottom is facing up.

    • Remove the ten Phillips #1 8.0 mm screws.

    • Carefully use the plastic opening tool to pry the palm rest apart from the bottom cover. Start from one spot and systematically work your way around until the whole palm rest is detached.

    • Disconnect the two cables that run from the keyboard to the motherboard and from the touch pad to the motherboard.

    • You may have to use a spudger to lift open the respective latches.

    • Gently peel off gold tape.

    • Remove the three Phillips #1 3.5 mm screws located on the under-side of the palm rest.

    • You can now pop out the touch pad.
