    • Make sure the device is fully powered off.

    • Flip the computer over so that the back is facing up.

    • Remove the twelve 6mm Phillips #1 screws from the bottom of the laptop.

Some of the screws are long and some are short - make sure you not which came out of which hold.

As always, I would recommend that you remember exactly where you remove the screws from, on this particular model, we did not see that the screws were different lengths. I would recommend sorting them in a pattern that is familiar, such as clockwise or counterclockwise. This way when replacing the screws you know exactly the order to put them back in.

    • Use the iFixit opening tools as wedges to pry the back of the laptop off.

    • Go slow, making sure not to snap the plastic. With enough of a gap made, you can use your hand to finish taking off the back.

    • Remove the ribbon cable by pulling the plastic connector that is connected to the motherboard out.

My old battery also had two screws holding the battery in.

Yeah that’s exactly right, not pictured here is the removal of those two screws which are located at the top of the battery. They function to hold the battery in place. Remove them before you remove the ribbon cable.
