Introduction

If your Acer Chromebook 14 CB3-431-C3WS trackpad isn’t registering touch correctly, remaining depressed once you’ve clicked something, or not depressing at all when you click it, you may need to replace your trackpad.

Try looking at this troubleshooting guide to see if there’s a simpler solution before attempting to replace the trackpad.

Make sure that your laptop is completely powered off, and disconnected from all external power sources before beginning your replacement.

    • Remove the two 6mm JIS #0 screws from either side of the hinges.

    • Remove the eight 4mm JIS #0 screws from the back cover.

    • Insert an opening pick between the back panel and the sides of the computer to begin lifting the back off.

    • There are several clips holding the cover in place.

    • After the sides have been lifted, use the opening tool to finish opening the back cover.

    • Remove the two JIS #0 screws that connect the battery to the rest of the laptop.

    • Pull the white tab connected to the battery out of the black tab that connects to the motherboard.

    • It is extremely important that this is done carefully and slowly to avoid causing damage to the motherboard.

    • Remove the strip of tape that secures the motherboard connector to the track pad.

    • Unclip the motherboard connector from the track pad.

    Overall your instructions were awesome. However, during this step I wasn’t aware the clip “flipped up” top release tension on the ribbon tape. So I inadvertently popped it off the old one but realized how it worked on the new one. Just a thought to add some clarification about how to release it. Thanks@
