Background and Identification
Xiaomi is a consumer electronics company headquartered in Beijing, China. Xiaomi was founded in 2010. The company today sells smartphones, laptops, earphones, fitness bands, etc. While Xiaomi isn’t known for producing cameras, it has dabbled in the camera industry. Xiaomi released the Xiaomi Yi/Yi Action Camera in March of 2015. The camera was specialized for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers that wanted to capture their experiences. Some Xiaomi Yi cameras had a notably colorful exterior, with both teal and green making up the camera’s encasing. The Xiaomi Yi also came in more standard colors like black and white.
Other cameras have also been released under the Yi name, including the Yi M1 Mirrorless Digital Camera, the Yi Smart Dash Camera, Yi Lite Action Camera, etc. There is also a range of Yi security cameras on the market, including the Yi Outdoor Security Camera and Yi 1080p Home Camera.
In October 2016, Yi products split off from Xiaomi, ceasing the “Xiaomi Yi” branding and going by just “Yi” instead. Xiaomi still sells a range of Yi cameras on its website.
Yi cameras are box-like in structure. They also include a camera lens and a variety of camera controls. Yi cameras come in a range of colors.
