Background and Identification

The Weinmann Oxymat 3 is an oxygen concentrator developed and distributed by Weinmann. Weinmann is a company that produces and sells medical equipment for emergency medicine, oxygen therapy, sleep apnea therapy, and inhalation therapy. Weinmann introduced the first commercial oxygen concentrator in 1982. An oxygen concentrator is a medical or industrial device that concentrates the oxygen from either ambient air or another gas supply. Oxygen concentrators selectively remove nitrogen and other gases from the air to provide an oxygen-enriched stream.

The Oxymat 3 oxygen concentrator is a time-controlled device, meaning only the pressure in the unit is monitored. This model includes a compressor, an oxygen system, and electronic or pneumatic control. Each time the oxygen concentrator is turned on, a self-test of the oxygen system is performed. If the self-test finds an error in the oxygen system, the yellow LED status indicator will turn on. Users can set the oxygen flow rate using a dosage control knob near the bottom of the dosage unit. (The dosage unit is the separate device that is connected to the Oxymat 3 using a connecting tube.) If a flow meter is included, the patient can control the flow rate using the flow control knob. The flow rate is indicated by the ball that floats in the tube above the flow control knob.

The Oxymat 3 oxygen concentrator includes the name “OXYMAT 3” printed in capital letters at the top of the device’s front face. The manufacturer’s name, “Weinmann,” is printed in capital letters underneath the model name.
