Background and Identification

This machine is part of the VP series, which stands for vibratory plate. It is a variation of the 1340AW/WH machine, and is very similar to the other variations, including the 103 variation.

This plate compactor is intended to pack down asphalt and soil to contruct paths and other landscaping features. The smaller size of this machine makes it easier to maneuver around obstacles and operate in smaller spaces. The AW variation of this machine uses a water tank, which can be used to wet the compacted material as the machine works.

This type of compactor is commonly called a ‘wacker.’ This nickname actually comes from the Wacker Neuson company, which designed this compactor and is very well-known for selling plate compactors and other equipment. Plate compactors are commonly used in construction work for packing down and solidifying foundations and creating level grades. The vibration that they produce comes from rapidly rotating a centrifuge inside the machine.
