Background and Identification

A spirometer is a diagnostic device that measures the amount of air that a patient is able to breathe in and out at a time. The spirometer is able to determine if the volume of air the patient is breathing is within normal ranges or if there is something abnormal about the activity. A spirometer can help diagnose patients who may be suffering from asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), pulmonary fibrosis, and cardiovascular disease. There are regular types of spirometry technology, but what makes the Vitalograph compact different from the other devices out there is that it measures multiple different functions within one device.

Accurate diagnosis depends on multiple measurements and diagnostic tests at once. The Vitalograph Compact measures a variety of different functions to help with accuracy and the time it takes to diagnose something potentially serious. The Compact evaluates a variety of components such as blood pressure, COPD assessments, and pulse oximetry. Having these diagnostics measured all at once helps medical professionals better assist patients in a timely manner. These kinds of advances are an important tool especially in the middle of a pandemic.

The compact has a larger touch screen (approximately twelve inches) to measure each function with. It also has Bluetooth capabilities compared to a regular spirometer and  multiple connection capabilities including an ethernet cable, a USB port, and serial ports. It utilizes the Spirotrac system to calculate clinical testing and diagnostic measurements.
