Background and Identification

Vacuum blotters, also known as vacuum blotting systems, are machines used to transfer nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) to membranes. Compared to capillary blotting, vacuum blotting is a much faster technique and the transfer times can be reduced from 24 hours to just 15-60 minutes, depending on the size of the nucleic acid.
