Background and Identification

Uterine Balloon Therapy is a type of endometrial ablation which is a surgical procedure to remove or destroy the the endometrial lining of the uterus. The procedure is done for women with heavy bleeding that will not stop on its own. It is not recommended for women who wish to have children.

With the uterine balloon therapy method, the doctor guides a thin tube with a balloon device through the cervix to the uterus. The balloon is then inflated with heated fluid, which will expand and destroy the lining of the uterus. The procedure takes between two to ten minutes.
