Background and Identification

A urinalysis is a test of a urine sample, which can be used to diagnose medical issues. A urinalysis consists of three parts:

  • Physical/visual exam—color and clearness of the urine is evaluated
  • Chemical exam—a urine strip is used to identify substances that are present at an abnormal amount
  • Microscopic exam—a urine sample is examined under a microscope
