Background and Identification
The DR650 SE began production in the 1990's and is still being produced today. The bike features a 644cc air/oil cooled engine producing 46 hp and weighs around 325 lbs (dry weight).
The DR650 has a long lasting, very durable engine that usually provides for a long, trouble free life. That is, of course, if the engine is properly taken care of. A couple of issues that can pop up on this motorcycle include: countershaft sprocket seal popping out, and the neutral sending unit stops working. The neutral sending unit is held in place by two screws and there have been instances when these screws get loose and fall into the engine.
