Background and Identification

Spirometry is the measuring of breaths and is one of the most common pulmonary functions tests given. It is given to diagnose many conditions that affect breathing including asthma, COPD, and other lung disease by measuring the amount of air you inhale and how much and how quickly you exhale.

A test is given by having a patient breath into a tube attached to a spirometer, which is the machine that assesses the measurement of breath.
