Background

The Sony Betamovie BMC-220 is a combination video recorder and camera. The Betamovie weighs 5 lbs 13 oz and has a maximum recording time of 3 hours and 20 minutes.

The BMC-220 is very similar to earlier Betamovie models like the BMC-100P and BMC-110 except it includes an auto-focus feature. The Betamovie can only be used with Betamax cassette tapes. Because the Betamovie could only use specific tapes, and it had no play-back feature, Sony stopped producing the cameras in the late 1980s. The camera comes with a battery pack, a power adaptor, an eye cup cover, a shoulder strap, and a decal.

Identification

The camera is identified as a Betamovie device on the side where the cassette is inserted. Above the Betamovie label, there is a smaller label that reads Betamovie BMC-220 which distinguishes it from other Betamovie models.
