Background and Identification

A Skin Perfusion Pressure system is a medical device used to perform a noninvasive test to determine or assess peripheral arterial disease. There have also been studies that have shown Skin Perfusion Pressure will help determine healing potential in patients with vascular constructions due to critical limb ischemia (NIH).

According to an article on Wounds Research, “Skin perfusion pressure is a measurement of the pressure at which perfusion first returns to the cutaneous microcirculation following a controlled release of occlusion.” The testing is done with a laser Doppler and a pressure cuff that is applied to a lower extremity.
