Background and Identification

Skin grafting is a skin transplantation technique used in dermatologic surgery. A patient may need a skin graft as a result of severe burns, deep wounds or trauma, skin loss, or healing after skin cancer removal.

A dermatome is a device used to obtain skin from a donor to use as a skin graft for the patient in need. There are a few different types of dermatomes, including knife dermatomes, drum dermatomes, electric dermatomes, and air dermatomes (most commonly used today).
