Background and Identification
The Scotch model TL901 is a thermal laminator made by Scotch Brand, which is a division of 3M. Scotch Brand specializes in office and craft supplies, especially adhesives like tape. Thermal lamination is the process of sealing a document between multiple layers of plastic to improve strength and durability. Lamination is especially popular for protecting documents that are handled frequently and may be prone to wear and tear. The TL901 can laminate items up to nine inches wide and pouches up to five millimeters thick. It features a two roller system with two temperature settings.
The TL901 model is only suitable for use with a grounded 120-Volt outlet and should not be used with a voltage or outlet converter. The laminator includes a jam release lever located on the left-hand side of the device’s body.
The TL901 model has a dull silver or grey body with vertical ridges across its body and a black loading tray. Two buttons are located on the right-hand side of the laminator, one for changing the heat setting, and one for turning the device on or off. Two LEDs (one red and one green) are positioned above the buttons to indicate a “ready” state and a “power” state. A yellow and black sticker is located above the LED lights that includes the brand name “Scotch” in yellow font and the model number “TL901” in black font.
