Background and Identification

The Model 710 and Model 715 Tidal Wave Sp are handheld, portable capnometers/oximeters made by Respironics, Inc. Pulse oximeters are non-invasive devices used to monitor a patient’s oxygen saturation. Respironics is an American medical supply company that focuses on products designed to improve respiratory functions.

The Model 710 and Model 715 Tidal Wave Sp are designed for monitoring end-tidal carbon dioxide, respiratory rate, functional oxygen saturation, and pulse rate. They can be used in monitoring environments such as emergency, anesthesia, and ventilatory support. The 715 model includes a miniature vacuum pump that draws expired respiratory gases through a CAPNOSTAT carbon dioxide sensor using a nasal cannula and a sampling airway adapter. These devices are designed to monitor adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.

The 710 and 715 monitors include digital display screens that present the patient’s end-tidal carbon dioxide, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and pulse rate. A battery charge indicator and LED light are placed under the left-hand side of the monitor’s display. This LED illuminates when the unit is run on battery power with green indicating a fully-charged battery, slow flashing yellow when battery power is low, and fast flashing red when the battery is exhausted. An LED underneath the monitor’s display provides alert information by presenting either steady yellow light, flashing yellow light, or flashing red and yellow light. A steady yellow light indicates that the audible alarms have been suspended for two minutes or there is no alert in progress. A flashing yellow light indicates that the monitor’s audio has been silenced. A flashing red and yellow light indicates that there is an alert in progress and that the audio has been turned off or suspended.

The name “TIDAL WAVE Sp” is printed in large blue letters across the left-hand side of the monitor’s front panel. The words “NOVAMETRIX CAPNOGRAPHY/OXIMETRY” are also printed in capital letters on the left-hand side of the front face.
