Background and Identification

The Respironics Remstar LX and LX Plus are known as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines. CPAP machines are a common treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (when the muscles in the throat relax and obstruct the individual’s breathing). CPAP machines use a face mask and/or nosepiece to continually deliver a steady stream of pressurized air to the patient. This pressurized air essentially “pushes” the throat muscles back to their normal position, so they no longer block the patient’s airway.

Note: The only difference between LX and Plus LX models is that the Plus LX has a time meter.

Common Problems and Maintenance

  1. Cleaning the filter: The filter should be cleaned at least once every two weeks under normal usage and replaced with a new one every six months.
  2. The REMstar Plus will not turn on: Make sure that the REMstar Plus is plugged into a working outlet. If you are using a DC battery, the battery may need to be recharged or replaced or the fuses may need to be replaced. Contact your home care provider or Respironics for directions on having the REMstar Plus serviced. Please have the device’s serial number ready when you call.
  3. The pressure being delivered feels different: Check the elevation setting to be sure it is set to your elevation. Change the elevation setting if necessary. If the elevation setting is incorrect, contact your home care provider or Respironics for directions on having the REMstar Plus serviced. Please have the device’s serial number ready when you call.
  4. The noise level of the REMstar Plus has changed to include unusual or harsh sounds during operation: Contact your home care provider or Respironics for directions on having the REMstar Plus serviced. Please have the device’s serial number ready when you call.
