The Porter-Cable Sander model 7800 is a drywall sander with a built-in dust-collection vacuum hose. it is designed for sanding walls and ceilings made of drywall or plaster. The vacuum hose is 13 feet long by 2-1/4-inches thick and is designed to cover large areas with a 62-inch reach. The sander has an 8-7/8-inch sanding surface that is designed to cover large swaths of drywall in a single pass. The vacuum is not generally included with the sander.
The model 7800 drywall sander includes a brush-type skirt surrounding the sanding pad that is designed to prevent gouging of wall joints and aid in dust collection. The sander also includes hook and loop straps for mounting the machine’s power cord to the vacuum hose. The 7800 model operates at variable speeds from 1400 to 2000 revolutions per minute. The Type 4 model has 3.5 Amps of power (vs. the Type 5 model, which has 4.7 amps of power).
The model 7800 sander weighs 8.5 pounds and includes a 16-foot electrical cord. The drywall sander is grey in color with a flat black surface for holding sander pads, black electrical cord, and black motor cover. The manufacturer name, “Porter-Cable,” is printed in white capital letters on the side of the motor guard. An abrasive disk is included with the drywall sander, but other 8-7/8-inch sanding disks can be purchased separately. Higher grit numbers correspond to smoother finishes.
