Background and Identification

The Pentax K200D is a 10.2-megapixel digital single-lens reflex camera released in January 2008 with the higher-end K20D camera. It was discontinued in December 2008, making it one of the shortest-lived DSLR cameras.

The Pentax K200D is the successor of the K100D, K110D, and K100D Super 6-megapixel digital single-lens reflex cameras from Pentas, which were all well-reviewed. The Pentax K200D retains the body construction, pentamirror viewfinder, and autofocus module from the K100D series cameras. The K200D also adopted some of the more advanced features of the K10D, including its 10.2-megapixel CCD sensor and body weather-sealing.

Like previous Pentax entry-level cameras, the K200D uses four AA batteries. It features 60 seals for weather/dust resistance. The K200D’s lens mount is the K-mount, so it is compatible with Pentax and third-party lenses as far back as 1975 without requiring any adaptors. Like all Pentax DSLR cameras, the K200D can use previous M42 mount lenses in manual mode with an adapter provided by Pentax or other independent manufacturers.

The K200D features a 2.7-inch liquid-crystal display (LCD) screen with a total of 230,000 pixels. It includes an onboard flash that can be used to allow wireless control of Pentax or compatible flashes with the onboard flash either firing or not firing during the capture.
