Also known as stimulators, external pacemakers are used to deliver electric pulses to the cardiac surface. Pacemakers are used for patients who may experience arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat. The difference between external pacemakers and internal pacemakers is that external pacemakers are temporary, whereas internal pacemakers are surgically implanted into the patient.
