Background and Identification
Otology is the study of the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the ear. The field of otology specializes in issues such as tinnitus, Ménière's disease, and otitis media. Otology also focuses on types of middle ear surgery including tympanoplasty, ossiculoplasty, mastoidectomy, and stapedectomy.
Otologists work closely with neurotologists, who specialize in the inner ear.
