Background and Identification

The Nonin 8600 is a pulse oximeter manufactured by Nonin Medical. Pulse oximeters are non-invasive devices used to monitor a patient’s oxygen saturation. Nonin Medical designs and manufactures pulse oximeters, regional oximeters, and capnographs for patient monitoring.

The 8600 pulse oximeter is designed to monitor the patient’s pulse rate and oxygen saturation. This model is designed to be portable and features audible and visual alarms for monitoring the patient’s status. It is suitable for use with adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. This model is designed to be used in hospital, ambulatory, and emergency medical service (EMS) environments. The 8600 can be powered from its internal rechargeable battery or on AC power. On a fully charged battery, the pulse oximeter can typically operate for 30 hours.

The patient’s oxygen saturation and pulse rate are displayed on LED digital displays. The pulse quality LED blinks with each detected pulse. The pulse quality signals are rated as ‘good,’ ‘marginal,’ or ‘inadequate’ and are indicated by the pulse quality indicator blinking green, yellow, or red, respectively.

The name “NONIN” is printed in bold white letters in the upper left-hand corner of the device’s front face. The model number, “8600,” is printed in smaller font next to the Nonin name.
