Background and Identification
The D800 and D800E are digital SLR cameras manufactured by Nikon. The only difference between the two cameras is that Nikon removed the D800’s anti-aliasing filter for the D800E; thus, the D800E produces sharper images but may be affected by a more pronounced moiré effect when photographing certain scenes. Both cameras use a 35.9x24 mm sensor which gives a 36.8 megapixel image. The camera is powered with an EN-EL15 battery or an add-on MB-D12 battery grip which uses the same rechargeable or AA batteries.
The cameras support manual mode or autofocus with 51 different focus points and can use most Nikon lenses from 1977-2016. Both models support shutter speeds from 1/8000 to 30 seconds with flash synchronization at 1/250 s or slower. The D800 has two slots for an SD card and a CompactFlash card and can connect via USB 3.0.
You can identify the two cameras by looking for the words “D800“ or “D800E” on the front of the body. Nikon reported that scammers might swap the case of the D800E onto the body of a D800 to trick buyers. Following these steps from PetaPixel, you can take a picture with your camera and look at the top-right corner of the screen with the overview option enabled to see the actual camera model.
