Background and Identification

The Nikon D2X is a 12.4-megapixel digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) introduced by Nikon Corporation in September 2004. Nikon is a Japanese corporation that specializes in optics and imaging products. The D2X model was Nikon’s high-resolution flagship DSLR until June 2006 when it was succeeded by the D2Xs.

The Nikon D2X uses a Nikon F-mount lens and a DX-format CMOS sensor produced by Sony. The camera can use virtually all of Nikon’s F-Mount lenses, including many legacy lenses. The CMOS sensor used in the D2X can resolve about nine times more than the human eye. This high resolution makes the camera especially suited for landscape and scenic imaging since it can better resolve small details in distant objects. The camera has a shutter speed range of 30 to 1/8000 seconds. The D2X has a rated shutter life of 200,000 or more images. This model is one of few cameras with a built-in “third-eye” that records the color of ambient light, which helps the camera accurately compute the white-balance for each image rather than relying on calculations based on subjects within the picture frame.

The Nikon D2X can be identified by the name “Nikon” printed in white font above the camera’s lens. The model name “D2X” is printed on the front face of the camera.
