Background

The New Nintendo 2DS XL was released on July 28, 2017. It does not support 3D gameplay. In North America, the 2DS XL is black with blue highlights, whereas in Asia it is white with orange highlights.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL is a streamlined version of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, retaining most of the enhancements over the original 2DS and 3DS models (including its updated processor, additional controls, and Amiibo support), but lacking the auto-stereoscopic 3D display and having a thinner build. Unlike the original 2DS, the New 2DS XL uses the same clamshell form factor as other 3DS models.

The device comes with a 4GB microSDHC card for data storage and a built-in NFC reader for downloading games, apps, and content. It supports both local and online multiplayer gameplay. The New 2DS XL can record 3D videos, take 2D and 3D photos, and create stop-motion animations. Nintendo has released the console in black/blue for North America, white/orange-gold for Japan, South Korea, and the PAL region, and a Dragon Quest XI limited edition exclusively for Japan.

Identification

The New 2DS XL and 3DS XL models share the same clamshell style. The top screen is a 400x240 pixel resolution LCD display with a 4.88in diagonal. The bottom touchscreen diagonal measures 4.18in. There are 3 cameras on this device. The front-facing camera is located in the middle of the hinge, while the dual rear cameras are on the bottom, below the hinge. The device speakers are located on either side of the base of the unit.

The game card slot and the microSDHC card are both under a cover located on the base of the product. The device comes with a pop-out stylus to the right of the audio jack.
