Background and Identification

The Nellcor Puritan Bennett NPB-75 is a pulse oximeter and capnograph made by Mallinckrodt’s Nellcor division. Pulse oximeters are non-invasive devices used to monitor a patient’s oxygen saturation. The Nellcor division focuses mainly on producing pulse oximeters and oxygen monitors.

The NPB-75 capnograph/pulse oximeter is used to continuously measure the patient’s end-tidal carbon dioxide, oxygen saturation, pulse rate, and respiratory rate. This monitor is suitable for use with adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. It is designed for hospital and mobile use, as long as the device is protected from excessive moisture. The NPB-75 is powered either by a rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride battery back or on AC power.

The NPB-75 capnograph/pulse oximeter is operated using a four-key keypad. The front panel includes an ON/OFF switch, an Alarm Silence/Alarm Menu button, a Contrast/Value Change button, an Event/Home button, and a Next/Menu button.

The model name “NPB-75” is printed in the upper left-hand corner of the monitor’s front face. The monitor’s front panel includes two numeric fields that can display three digits each using a seven-segment LED graphic display. The left-most numeric field displays the end-tidal carbon dioxide. The right-most numeric field displays the patient’s oxygen saturation as a percentage. An LCD graphic display with backlighting presents the patient’s respiratory rate, pulse rate, and a graph of the patient’s oxygen saturation over time.
