Background and Identification
The Nellcor N-395 is a portable pulse oximeter made by Mallinckrodt’s Nellcor division. Pulse oximeters are non-invasive devices used to monitor a patient’s oxygen saturation. The Nellcor division focuses mainly on producing pulse oximeters and oxygen monitors.
The Nellcor N-395 is designed to continuously measure the patient’s pulse rate and functional oxygen saturation of arterial hemoglobin. This device is suitable for use with adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. This pulse oximeter can be used in hospitals, outpatient centers, homes, and intra-hospital transport. The monitor’s LCD display can either display large measured values or a plethysmographic waveform. Users can view up to 48 hours of saturated oxygen level and pulse rate trends taken at four-second intervals.
If the patient’s pulse rate or oxygen saturation moves above or below set levels, audible alarms are produced. Users can manually change the alarm limits. Four softkeys on the monitor’s front face can be used to access trend information, change alarm limits, choose the desired language, adust the internal time clock, and change communications protocols.
The name “NELLCOR” is printed in capital letters above the left-hand side of the monitor’s graphic LCD display. The pulse oximeter’s model number, “N-395” is printed above the right-hand side of the monitor’s display. The monitor’s feet can be flipped over to adjust the device’s angle.
