Background and Identification
The Mallinckrodt Nellcor NPB-75 is a handheld capnograph and pulse oximeter sold by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. Pulse oximeters are non-invasive devices used to monitor a patient’s oxygen saturation. Mallinckrodt is a manufacturer of specialty pharmaceuticals, imaging agents, and generic drugs. The company also acquires, manufactures, and sells products for diagnostic procedures and pain treatment.
The NPB-75 model is designed to continuously monitor end-tidal carbon dioxide levels, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation levels, and pulse rate. It can be used on adult, pediatric, and infant/neonatal patients. The device is intended for continuous, noninvasive monitoring for hospital and mobile use.
This pulse oximeter can be powered either by AC power or on its internal Nickel Metal Hydride battery pack, which is rechargeable. The NPB-75 model can be operated using a four-key keypad. End-tidal carbon dioxide readings are displayed on the left-most 7-segment LED digital display. Oxygen saturation readings are shown on the right-most LED digital display. Other information like alarms and waveforms can be displayed on the device’s LCD graphic display, which is the large display near the center of the device’s front face.
The Mallinckrodt Nellcor NPB-75 is sometimes sold under the Puritan Bennett brand name. For these models, the name “NELLCOR PURITAN BENNETT” is printed near the bottom of the device’s front face. The model name, “NPB-75” is printed in the upper left-hand corner of the monitor’s front face.
