Makita Trimmers XRU09Z (2018)

The Makita Trimmers XRU09Z is a cordless string grass trimmer made by Makita. Makita has been making electric motors since 1915. In 1938 they created their first power tool, a planer. They currently make and sell power tools such as drills, hedge trimmers, and grass trimmers.

In 2018, Makita released the XRU09Z Trimmer. Even though it is discontinued on the Makita site, you can still purchase the trimmer, batteries, and parts, such as the trimming string spindle (M10x1.25 LH), through online shopping and home hardware stores.

The primary purpose of the Makita XRU09Z is to trim grass and weeds; therefore, it should not be used as an edger or hedge cutter.

The Makita Trimmer has a green housing set that covers the battery and motor and a green housing for the head or trimming string spindle. The model number can be found on the right-hand side of the motor housing at the top of the trimmer. The overall length of the trimmer is 69", its net weight is 9.9 lbs with the battery, and it has a cutting radius of 13-3/4". It has a grip handle, and easy to access on/off switch, and a switch to change from low to fast, labeled as a turtle and a hare.

The 18 volt battery supplies up to 60 minutes of run time on the low setting, which can be monitored via the battery capacitor indicator on the left-hand side of the battery cartridge.
