Background and Identification

Kenmore is a brand owned by Sears that makes a variety of household appliances. The first Kenmore product was a sewing machine. They expanded to washing machines in 1927, and vacuum cleaners in 1932. The brand continued to expand through the rest of th 20th century, selling refrigerators, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, and ovens along with many other products. Kenmore brand products are usually manufactured by one of the following companies: Whirlpool Corporation, LG Corporation, Electrolux, Panasonic, Cleva North America, or Daewoo Electronics.

The Kenmore Model Number 970-678431 is an electric range from Kenmore with a single oven and warmer drawer beneath the main oven. Warmer drawers use the latent heat from the oven to keep foods warm while the oven is in use. This oven also has an inductive cooktop. Inductive cooking is very efficient because it directly heats the cooking vessels, rather than relying on indirect thermal conduction. However, it requires pans to be made of ferrous (iron-containing) metal such as cast iron or stainless steel. Regular pans can also be placed on top of a plate made of these materials, which functions like a hotplate. These materials are needed for induction to work efficiently.

To identify the Kenmore oven that you want to repair, you will need the model and serial numbers. These are found on the serial plate, which is usually located on the right side of the oven front frame, in the storage or warmer drawer compartment.
