Background and Identification

The Integra LICOX CMP is a brain tissue oxygen monitoring system made by Integra NeuroSciences, a subdivision of Integra LifeSciences. Integra LifeSciences sells a range of medical devices for orthopedics, neurosurgery, and reconstructive and general surgery.

The Integra LICOX CMP is designed to continuously monitor brain oxygen partial pressure (PtO2) in brain tissue and cerebrospinal fluid. The device also monitors intracranial temperature. It can be used for patients with brain injuries or cerebrovascular events. The monitor provides clinicians with early warnings of potential hypoxic events. The LICOX CMP model is sold in bolted (model IM3STEU) or tunneled (model IT2EU) versions.

The Integra LICOX CMP monitor is not designed for blood gas monitoring. Catheter microprobes are implanted directly into the patient’s brain tissue and are connected to the LICOX CMP monitor using an electrical cable. For oxygen sensing, the catheter uses an electrochemical micro-cell. The separate temperature catheter uses a type K thermocouple to measure intracranial temperature.

The temperature and oxygen pressure data recorded by the LICOX system can be sent to patient monitors for processing, storage, and display. The LICOX CMP can also be used as a stand-alone monitor that displays oxygen pressure measurements.

The Integra LICOX CMP monitor is housed in a beige or grey plastic case. The name “Integra NeuroSciences” is printed in capital letters above the device’s display. “LICOX CMP” is printed underneath the display.
