Background and Identification

Hotpoint is an American appliance brand that has been producing a wide range of household appliances since 1911. They initially produced an electric iron that was popular in American households of the time. In 1918 they expanded production to include electric ranges, and by the 1920s, they had further expanded their catalog to include refrigerators and washing machines.

In the 1950s, Hotpoint introduced one of the first automatic washing machines, which had a top-loading design and featured a spin cycle to help dry clothes, which was a significant design improvement over current models of the time which required manual operation. By the 1960s they had also introduced a line of front-loading washing machines, which improved efficiency while using less water and detergent than their top-loading cousins. They also had an improved capacity that allowed consumers to do more washing with fewer loads.

Hotpoint continued to introduce new features, such as multiple wash cycle options, automatic temperature control, digital controls, and advanced sensors that could detect the size and weight of the load and adjust the wash cycle accordingly. Hotpoint as also introduced washing machines with features such as steam cleaning and smart technology.
