Background and Identification

The Graco Paint Sprayer model 17N166 is a handheld cordless and airless sprayer that is manufactured by Graco, a fluid-handling systems manufacturer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Air-powered products like this one are a specialty of the Graco company. In fact, their first product in 1926 was an air-powered grease gun that worked in cold weather, unlike hand powered models. After this first success, the company expanded to other lubricant handling products.

The sprayer gun attaches to a cup, which can be filled with paint. This product comes with four refillable bags that hold 32 ounces of paint each and sit in the cup on the underside of the sprayer. Once the cup is filled with a bag of paint and connected to the gun, this product then sprays the paint out of a nozzle on the front, which creates a coating of paint on the surface. This can be used to coat a wall more quickly and evenly than a roller or paintbrush would. While airless sprayers are often used on large outdoor areas and rough surfaces because they give good coverage, small handheld sprayers like this one can be used indoors, as long as the user is careful to block off areas where they don’t want paint to be sprayed.
