Background and Identification

A fetal monitor is a device that assesses the heartbeat of an unborn baby. A common method of external monitoring is through a Doppler fetal monitor, which is a portable ultrasound device. Fetal monitors can be used in a professional hospital setting, as well as for at-home personal use. Fetal monitoring can also be performed internally through an electrode placed on the fetal scalp through the mother’s cervix.
