Background

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices function to provide continual and substantial air pressure to help someone breathe while they are sleeping. Typically the device has a motor, a mask that covers the nose and mouth, and a hose that connects the motor to the mask. The motor will take in air and pressurize it according to the needs of the user. The air typically remains at room temperature and some machines have a water tank to add moisture to the air being pressurized and avoid drying out the user's respiratory system.

The E.M.E. MK II Infant Flow Drive is a combined air/oxygen mixer, oxygen analyzer, flowmeter, and pressure manometer device. The device is meant to be used with the Infant Flow Neonatal CPAP (nCPAP) generator making up the Infant Flow System. This device series, M672, has several models: M672B, M672P, and M672PA.

The Infant Flow System has been the go-to system for nCPAP devices for over two decades. Both the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the European Consensus Guidelines (ECG) recommend the use of the device for neonatal respiratory distress syndrome.

Identification

The system is housed in an aluminum enclosure built with both standard and custom-designed components. Housed inside are the Sechrist medical air/oxygen mixer, a Dwyer flowmeter that is precalibrated for mixed gasses, an oxygen fuel cell and associated electronics, an electronic pressure measuring and limiting system, and the main power supply.

It comes with a pole mounting bracket that can be used on both round and square poles between 10 to 35 mm in diameter. The gas inlet plate is pre-drilled with two M6 tapped hole pairs which can accommodate a range of rail mount brackets.
