Background

The Drager CF800 was made in Germany and was manufactured in 2009. The device is a ventilator for a continuous flow CPAP device and 02 therapy for adults and children heavier than 3 kg. The ventilator is designed to help support spontaneous breathing rhythms. It can be used with a disconnect monitor to trigger an alarm if there is pressure loss during CPAP or if gas is detected.

This device is also listed as one of the top 25 best-selling CPAP machines. It was created in Germany but is now used all over the US. The 2022 selling price for the Drager CF800 ranges between $391 to $488.

Identification

The Drager CF800 looks like a white box with an O2 flow meter, an AIR flow meter, and a pressure gage. Under the Drager there is a blue reservoir (accordian style) that will expand and decompress. To the right is a disconnect monitor that resembles a light switch, and on the left are multiple tubes connected to the pressure gage and the flow meters.

 

The model number is located on the back side, to the left of the rail connecting bracket. This specific model only comes white/ off white with a royal/ navy blue reservoir at the bottom.

1.     Set the patient's height to calculate the IBW and the lower limit for the tidal volume.

2.     Set the MAX PEEP value and the inspiratory oxygen concentration

-This starts the spontaneous breathing test

3.     Access to the airway

4.     Insert medical history

-This is for automatic adaptation of the upper limit for etCO2 and Respiratory Rate

 

5.     Nights Rest

-no active weaning takes places

-SmartCare / PS maintains pressure support

-SmartCare / PS will increase pressure support if the patient’s condition worsens.

 

6.     Start Patient Session

-apnea ventilation must be on

Product Specifications:

·      Alarm limits must be set above and below the SmartCare / PS limit values

·      Apnea alarm = cancel SmartCare / PS session

·      A functioning CO2 measurement is required for SmartCare / PS

·      Use the O2 suction function to perform a suction manoeuvre

(This pauses the SmartCare / PS and gives the patient time to recover)
