Background and Identification

The CAS 510 and 511 are pulse oximeters developed, manufactured, and distributed by CAS Medical Systems, Inc. CAS Medical Systems is a medical device company that specializes in blood pressure measurement, other monitoring devices, and neonatal supplies. Pulse oximeters are non-invasive devices used to monitor a patient’s oxygen saturation. The CAS 510 model is designed for homecare use. The CAS 511 model is designed for hospital use.

The CAS 510 and 511 models provide real-time monitoring of the patient’s respiration and heart rate. They also provide alerts if abnormalities in the measured quantities are detected. The 510/511 models can be optionally sold with additional equipment to measure the patient’s blood oxygen level. These devices can also be used to monitor saturated oxygen levels, heart rate, respiratory rate, and central apnea in infants.

Users of these pulse oximeters can select upper and lower heart rate limits at which the device will emit alarms. The 510 and 511 models include a rechargeable lead-acid battery. CAS advertises that without saturated oxygen level measurement, the 511 model can run for up to 15 hours and the 510 model can operate for up to 24 hours on one charge. With saturated oxygen level measurement, the 510 can run for up to 10.5 hours while the 511 can run for up to 15 hours.
