Background and Identification

Fluid warmers are medical devices used by healthcare professionals to warm fluids or blood product prior to administration, typically by intravenous means. The machine is responsible for regulating the temperatures of these fluids to body temperature, in order to prevent hypothermia or shock in trauma or surgical patients. There are two main designs for fluid warmers: those which warm fluids prior to use and store the fluids at desired temperatures, known as warming cabinets, and those which warm the fluids as they are being administered, known as in-line warmers.
