Background and Identification

The abbreviation V.I.P. stands for Ventilator Infant Pediatric. The V.I.P Bird Gold and Sterling Ventilator is used in NICU and PICU units to help babies and children who cannot breathe on their own breathe successfully. The system helps its patients gradually breathe on their own with its Dual Mode Breath Type, Flow Synchronization, and Termination Sensitivity. The system is a product of Bird Products Corporation and any repairs or upkeep to the system must be performed by authorized personnel who have received V.I.P Bird Gold and Sterling ventilator training.

The V.I.P. Bird Gold and Sterling are almost identical. Both systems have the following:

  • O2 Pressure Gauge
  • O2 Regulator
  • Air Pressure Gauge
  • Air Pressure Regulator

The one difference between the two is the Gold has Dip Switch SW504 settings and the Sterling does not.

Error codes appear on the monitor display window. To determine what error has occurred, copy the code that appears and find it on the chart located in the service manual.

The recommended maintenance for the product is as follows:

  • Every 1000 hours: replace the air inlet water trap.
  • Every 5000 hours: check and replace the nylon cone filters and the duck bill check valve.
  • Every 20,000 hours: a complete maintenance service must be done to the entire system.
  • Every 2 years: the blender must be overhauled.

A more in-depth explanation of these maintenance requirements can be found in chapter 2 of the Service Manual.
