Background and Identification

LTE versions of Apple Watch Series 5 can be identified by the distinctive red circle on the digital crown (in place of the red dot from the Series 3). The watch comes in 40 mm and 44 mm configurations in a variety of colors and materials.

Internally, the watch features the same digital crown with haptic feedback and an electrical heart sensor for additional readings on that ticker of yours. Our initial Series 5 teardown revealed many similarities with Series 4 models, although the components are not interchangeable.

The battery differs drastically between models. Larger 44 mm models get a slight ~1.4% boost in battery capacity over the Series 4, but the smaller 40 mm Series 5 gets a radical new battery design and a 10% boost in capacity.

The watch now comes also in ceramic and titanium. Tools and repair procedures remain similar to Apple Watch Series 4.

The most often replaced Apple Watch Series 5 parts include the battery and screen.
