The second-generation Time Capsule Model A1302 is a wireless router and NAS (network-attached storage) device integrated into a plain white plastic case. You can use the Time Capsule to create a wired or wireless network and the internal storage can be used for Time Machine backups or file storage.

The Model A1302 was released by Apple in 2009 and introduced dual band wireless capabilities—2.4 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously—as well as the ability to create a guest network. The A1302 sold for $299 and $499 for the 500 GB and 1 TB versions respectively. Later in 2009, Apple increased the drive capacities to 1 TB and 2 TB at the same prices.

The A1302 Time Capsule includes four gigabit Ethernet ports to connect to a modem and to devices on your local network. The Time Capsule also has a USB port which you can use to connect external drives or a shared printer. You can use Apple’s Airport Utility software for Mac or Windows to manage your network or erase the internal hard drive.

You can identify the Time Capsule Model A1302 by the model number on the rubber bottom of the device (the serial number is also on the bottom in case you need that as well). The model number is written in small print on the first line below the Apple logo. The Time Capsule Model A1302 is short and wide; only the fifth-generation Model A1470 is tall and skinny.
