Acer Chromebook R 11 C738T

The Acer Chromebook R 11 C738T (what a name!) is a Chromebook released by Acer in January of 2016. It has an 11-inch screen which can fold 360 degrees around to the back of the keyboard and has touchscreen support. As is normal for any Chromebook, the R 11 C738T runs ChromeOS with updates and support guaranteed until June 2022. The chassis of the laptop is made from black plastic with USB ports, an HDMI output, a headphone jack, and an SD card reader on the left and right edges.

Accessing the internals of this laptop can be done by removing the bottom cover, which is held in place with 11 Phillips screws. You can see the process in this YouTube disassembly video. Take care not to rip the ribbon cable that also connects the bottom cover to the motherboard of the laptop. Unfortunately for the repairability of this device, both the memory and flash storage are soldered directly to the motherboard. Other critical components like the battery and screen, however, can be replaced in the event that they die. To identify this laptop, look on the bottom for a sticker containing the model number “R 11 C738T” or just “C738T.” If you can’t find the model number here, you can also enter the serial number from this sticker on Acer’s support website to find your exact product name.
