Winter Soul (5e Subclass)

Winter Soul

The Winter Soul is a sorcerer subclass that grants ice- and snow-themed abilities.

Your innate magic comes from the Elemental Plane of Ice. You might have been born during a blizzard of legendary ferocity or survived an expedition through frigid mountains or wild tundra. However this magic came to you, the power of the cold resounds throughout your very being.

Voice of the Blizzard

The magic that you use is powered by the Elemental Plane of Ice. You can speak, read, and write Primordial. (Knowing this language allows you to understand and be understood by those who speak its dialects: Aquan, Auran, Ignan, and Terran.)

Icy Domain

Starting at 1st level, you can use a bonus action on your turn to cause a 5-square foot patch of slippery ice to appear on a space within 10 feet of you immediately before or after you cast a spell of 1st level or higher. The ice counts as difficult terrain, and when a creature moves onto the patch for the first time on its turn, it must succeed on a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check against your spell save DC or fall prone. The ice remains for 1 minute or until you dismiss it as a bonus action. In addition, you count as being adapted to extreme cold, as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master's Guide.

Winter's Herald

At 6th level, you gain resistance to cold damage. In addition, whenever you start casting a spell of 1st level or higher that deals cold damage, frigid magic erupts from you. This eruption causes creatures of your choice that you can see within 10 feet of you to take cold damage equal to half your sorcerer level.

Permafrost

At 14th level, spells of 1st level or higher that you cast ignore a target's resistance to cold damage and deal damage to targets immune to cold damage as though they resisted it. In addition, you ignore difficult terrain caused by ice or snow, and can see creatures and objects lightly obscured by ice or snow as though they weren't obscured, or heavily obscured creatures and objects as though they were lightly obscured.

Glacial Shield

At 18th level, you gain immunity to cold damage. In addition, creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you count as being adapted to extreme cold, as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master's Guide.

gollark: I don't see any reason it would be physically impossible or something, but it would be nontrivial.
gollark: Not with existing technology. Maybe at some point.
gollark: Especially since I think legally they'd have to pay for/raise it and stuff.
gollark: I don't see a significant reason they should be obligated to have the child for you.
gollark: Analogously, I would say you should probably not be required to have someone grafted to your circulatory system and stuff for 9 months if this would keep them from an otherwise lethal disease or something. You maybe *should* morally, but this is a different thing (and I don't think that really applies in the fetus case, as it isn't much of a "person").
