Wild Fae

"We shape the world just as the world shapes us" - Titania, Mother of the Wild Fae

Physical Description

Crossing the bounds between ethereal and natural, the Wild Fae are blessed by their Goddess Titania with glimmering beauty and exceptional grace. Standing usually anywhere between two to three feet tall, their short stature only accentuates their gracefulness whether on foot or flying through the air. Most Wild Fae often weigh around 20 to 40 pounds, with rounded faces and lithe bodies. They generally mature physically at around age 15, but can often live upwards of 250 years, though this time may be decreased if they do not maintain their connection to the Feywild. Their close connection to their homeland allows them to shift from the Material Plane to the Feywild whenever they meditate for enough time.

Given their intimate connection with the natural world and the Feywild, some of them may take on certain characteristics of monsters or beasts of those planes. This can range from scales, animal fur, or even tree bark fusing itself into their skin to list a few. The Wild Fae also often have their appearance subtly change depending on the environments they currently find themselves in. These changes may include the tint of their wings, hair color, eye color, and even the scales or fur on their body, though their skin color is not normally affected. As such, there are near limitless color variations for the Wild Fae, though the colors seen most often typically reflect natural colors of their home plane such as blue, brown, green, purple, and yellow. Their eyes are most often a single color with no difference between the pupil, iris, and sclera. Their wings also come in many varieties ranging from transparent to opaque, to even being imbued with the appearance of a specific element depending on how the Wild Fae was created. All Wild Fae have elongated ears with a slight downward curve, making them similar but still noticeably distinct from their Elven counterparts.

History

Wild Fae have been around for as long as the Planes themselves, their essence being imbued with both natural and magical energies of the Feywild as much as any other Plane they decide to make their home. Noticeably different from other races however, they are not born into the world, instead they are created from the multitude of magical energies coalescing into a physical form. Wild Fae also do not know death as the other races, instead having their essence converge into a spirit bud when their physical bodies stop functioning. This can lead to a singular Wild Fae to live many centuries or even millennia with their memories being passed down from generation to generation through these spirit buds. This makes them extremely rooted in their beliefs and traditions, their faith never straying from their Goddess, along with their methods and technology appearing slightly more primitive than others.

Attitude and Relations

Wild Fae are fairly shy and reclusive pranksters, preferring to stay out of sight while causing minor inconveniences on other races as their form of humor. They are generally good hearted though, and don't mean to cause any actual harm unless it is called for. However, they are fervent defenders of both nature and their homeland, and anything that could be considered a threat to either will be swiftly and effectively dealt with by any means necessary. This tends to make them good friends with other similar races, such as Elves or other Fey creatures.

There is also an underlying curious and inquisitive nature to the Wild Fae, so they will often seek out to explore or adventure into parts unknown to further their understanding and connection with the world. This can lead Wild Fae into befriending and becoming allies with all sorts of different races, even some rather unexpected ones at times. They are rather slow to trust however due, so even if one thinks they're on the good side of a Wild Fae, they may just be one wrong action away from becoming an enemy.

Wild Fae Names

Wild Fae are often named after aspects of nature or in their natural Sylvan tongue. There are a few outliers and many variations of each name, but it will always represent an aspect of the Wild Fae, and may even be intertwined with their own essence. A few examples may be:

gollark: I think the updater only needs to hash the manifest to check for version changes now.

gollark: It has boot times in the seconds in a high-performance emulator for no discernible reason
gollark: PotatOS uses *two* bizarre custom dubiously secure ECC libraries for a few things.
gollark: As long as it can do HTTP(S), websockets, persistent storage in significant quantities, various cryptographic algorithms, ridiculous amounts of memory use, and Lua execution, it can technically run potatOS.
